This project is to introduce heritage enterprise or time-honored brand (laozihao) as a theoretical perspective that examines social and cultural change in a city.  These laozihao refer to business companies that have been established for more than fifty years.  These companies and their high quality products are highly recognized by the locals and some by other peoples around the world.  In particular, the theory argues that these lasozihao witness the changes in their cities.  They are the best ‘informants’ who shed light on the discourse of cultural globalization such as de/re/construction of place-identity and the process of braiding global culture.

Brooks’ BBQ has become an icon of Upstate New York. Griffin Brooks started as a poultry farm with his wife Frances McClelland in 1912 at the site shown in the picture below.  In 1951, they started catering and operated a concession stand at the mini golf and driving range connected with the del-Se-Go Drive-in in 1958.

The restaurant opened on June 10, 1961, and expanded the premise to a seating capacity of 300 and has the largest indoor charcoal bbq pit (38 feet in length) in the East.
